WETA UK is a channel in the Washington, DC market that delivers a curated lineup of current and classic dramas and comedies from across the United Kingdom. As part of a much-needed brand update, I led the design of a refreshed on-air graphics package that honors the channel’s British roots while aligning with contemporary viewer expectations.
The new system evokes the misty countryside and storied architecture of the UK through a palette of cool blues and foggy grays, accented by understated gold highlights. Light and dark variants offer flexibility for daytime and primetime use, ensuring legibility and visual consistency across content. Typography plays a key role—pairing refined serifs with modern weights to strike a balance between heritage and clarity.
Iconic British visuals like cathedral towers, seaside cliffs, and London’s bridges are subtly layered into the background, reinforcing the channel’s promise of place and prestige without overwhelming the information hierarchy. From daily schedules to program promos, the system delivers elegance, legibility, and an unmistakably British tone—tailored for DC audiences.
This graphics refresh not only modernizes the brand but sets the stage for WETA UK’s next chapter as a destination for beloved British storytelling.
